Peer o Mureed: The Teacher and the Student [For the Youth Specially] Part 2

The Question by Allama Iqbal

Oriental eyes are dazzled by the west;
Western nymphs are fairer than those in Paradise.

Explanation of the stanza: The people of the East think of Europe’s culture as astonishingly beautiful, unimaginable, and totally outstanding. They think of the beauty and glamour of the women of the West as more than that of the maidens, the nymphs of the Paradise.

The Answer by Maulana Rumi

Silver glisters white and new;
but blackens the hands and clothes.

Explanation of the stanza: All that glitters is not GOLD. Silver though feels like white, glittering and new, but it also blackens the hands and clothes.

In simple words; we should not go on the outer beauty of something, an object maybe, or humans (i.e. women of the west in the poem), we should also keep an eye on what they are really are, in reality. It doesn’t matter how attractice, good-looking, and stunning the ladies of the west are but if they are a reason and source of blackening the heart and soul, then to fall for them is totally impractical, useless and hopeless to say the least.
Allama Iqbal again beautifully sketches the true picture of the wrong doings of the youth in present times. Most of the Muslims, especially Pakistanis leave Pakistan for abroad and engage with European ladies and fall for them very quickly, without even considering what their character is, and how they are from the inside, but they just fall on their outside. Allama Iqbal is not discriminating, he’s just explaining what the youth and adults do today(though he said all this almost 8 decades ago) but it still feels as if he’s just describing the current situation. We should ponder over this problem of the youth today and we should talk to them about what they’ll get in the hereafter if they just protect themselves in this world which is a test for the believer.
As GOD Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
Beatified for those who disbelieve in the life of this world, and they ridicule those who believe. But those who fear ALLAH are above them on the Day of Resurrection. And ALLAH gives provision to whom HE wills without account. Surah Baqarah(The Cow) Chap#2 Verse #212
ALLAH says in the Quran: ALLAH chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to him]. [Surah Ash-Shura Chap#42 Verse#13]

If you achieve any good from this, than that is from ALLAH, only the mistakes are mine, do pray for me that MAY ALLAH guide me to the straight path
